Which Social Media Strategy Is Best For Advertising Agency New Business?

Peter · May 13, 2024 · 6 Comments

advertising agency social media Your Advertising Agency and Social Media.  Oh, And Your Business Development Program.

I am updating this older relatively well-read blog post about the how-to make it happen for an advertising agency social media program. Updating is a good blog strategy to help Google love you.

Does Advertising Agency Social Media Work Anymore (As In Drive Incoming Leads)?

Start here: “Which Social Media Strategy Is Best For Advertising Agency New Business?” I am not going to bullshit you. There is no perfect social media platform for advertising agency new business. Why? Cause ya know… the devil is in the details, and your details might just be different than the agency down the road.

2024.

I originally wrote this very viewed advertising agency social media blog post back in 2014. Yikes. Time for an update, right? Like I said… Updating old blog posts that once had decent activity is critical to bumping them back up on Google searches. There is an art to this.

When I wrote this back in the good old days, blog posts by ad agencies had not yet exploded, Twitter posts had not yet exploded, Instagram was not yet a smash, TikTok had not been invented, and on. Here are some of those “we are now bombarded” stats.

  • Depending on who you listen to, you’ve got like 4,000 competitive agencies and freelancers.
  • How many blog posts are there today? Here is just one directional figure: there are “like” over 2 million blog posts daily – out of 1.7 billion websites. You think your ad agency can stand out?
  • From Claude: Assuming 85% of the 229 million daily active users on X, that’s around 195 million real users tweeting daily.
  • It’s estimated that around 200 million businesses across the world use Instagram each month. Around 90% of Instagram’s users follow at least one business account on the platform.
  • There seem to a billion LinkedIn posts a day.
  • I have over 6,000 “advertising people” connections, yet when I post on LinkedIn, I get maybe 80 individual post views. Pay per play, baby. It’s not so organic these days.

Do you get the idea here? You are kinda fucked if you think that your blogs, tweets, etc are gonna get noticed. You are competing with other, probably really good at SEO agencies.

The best I can do is share my personal experiences. First, here are my social media objectives.

When is The Best Time To Post, Pin and Tweet?

Peter · June 3, 2014 · Leave a Comment

I use this blog, LinkedIn, Twitter, Facebook (a recent addition), Pinterest (via my agency directory) and Google+ to promote my business. I stare at my stats to analyze what posts, subject categories, headlines and to determine when is the best time to post, pin and tweet.

Here is a sweet chart from SurePayroll on the best times to post. As you might imagine, there is devil in the details and your milage will vary based on your target market’s interests and behavior and how interesting your posts are.

Best Read Advertising Blog Posts

Peter · May 27, 2014 · 2 Comments

cher.h9In the interest of sharing, here is a list of my best read / performing blog posts during the past few months. All of these posts are found via a search engine optimized blog; my email newsletter list (sign up for it below); Twitter; LinkedIn; Facebook; my Pinterest agency directory website; guest posts; Reddit and a test I did using Outbrain (nice traffic but not well targeted.)

The Worst Advertising Agency Presentation post went somewhat viral across social media with a special thanks to Facebook. I suspect that the story resonated with the Saatchi & Saatchi and M&C Saatchi universes because it discusses a looser pitch for Adidas I did with Maurice and Charles Saatchi. It is an entertaining, if sad story.

How To Name Your Agency is clearly a hot topic for new and existing agencies. The majority of the other posts address my main topic: agency new business. Thank you SEO Gods.

Next: I am interested in seeing how the brand new 34 Advertising Agency Search Consultants post does in the coming weeks.

The links are hot. Go on and visit some of my best read posts.

Why Are Aren’t Advertising Agencies Using Pinterest?

Peter · April 25, 2014 · Leave a Comment

Pinterest just added Guided Search. It makes it easier to find pins and boards on the desktop and in the mobile world.

Pinterest is huge and they wanted to make it easier to find what their users are looking for (I’ll come back to why this matters to agencies in a second.) According to Mashable:

Part of what made the expanded search necessary is the total number of pins on the platform. Silbermann (Ben, the CEO) says that Pinterest users have created 750 million boards, and pinned more than 30 billion items. Those numbers have grown 50% in the last six months alone, he says.

OK, zillions of people search Pinterest. Some are your future clients. If so, why are two of the leading results for the term “advertising agencies” advertising agency new business consultants – Michael Gass and me? Shouldn’t it be advertising agencies or the huge networks like WPP or Publicis leading the way? What if a client thinks of using Pinterest to do an agency search? Hint: some are.

Take a look below. And, while you are at it, here is a link to my set of Pinterest posts.

I Love It: Pinterest Marketing & SEO

Peter · September 10, 2013 · Leave a Comment

I love SEO, Google and Pinterest. As in using Pinterest for marketing.

I am writing a long piece on advertising agency positioning. It will publish in a couple of weeks in time for Advertising Week New York. I’ll be there and will be writing about my thoughts on the speakers and event vibes for the Advertising Week blog.

While doing my agency positioning research, I decided to do some exploration on the idea of advertising agency of the future. My search yielded the search results charted below. As you can see, my Pinterest page popped high up. As I said above, “I love SEO, Google and Pinterest.” Yes SEO-mavens, I checked using other browsers and emptied my cache.
