Pinterest Advertising Agency Directory: Help Please

Peter · January 13, 2016 · Leave a Comment

I Need Your Help: Should I Continue Updating The Advertising Agency Directory?

pinterestA couple of years ago I created a Pinterest directory site that lists advertising agencies – the ones I could find. I did it as a way for prospective advertisers to easily locate and compare agencies and as a thought-leadership-oriented-business-development-lead-generator for my consulting business.

As you can see, the directory organizes agencies by city (primarily major cities) and uses a screen grab of the agency homepage and a brief description to help visitors see the range of agencies in each town.

FYI for you thought leaders worried about the time required to thought lead: this directory was very low-cost endeavor as I had an assistant in the Philippines build it using my template and instructions.

The Help Me Please Part…

Today the Pinterest advertising agency directory has well over 1,000 Followers and I get some incoming every month from agencies that would like to be listed or have their information revised. I am going to keep the directory up – why not. However, I am just not sure if I want to maintain it beyond adding agencies that request a listing. I am not sure of its value for the ad industry – as in agencies and clients seeking an agency.

OK, one clear value for you agencies. This is a great way to study your competition in just one place. Agencies change / revise their websites every couple of years. The directory provides  some great ideas worth, um, contemplating.

My questions to you.

You can answer by adding a comment below or by emailing me at peter@peterlevitan.com. Thanks.

Do you think that this advertising agency directory via Pinterest is valuable to advertisers and you?

Were you aware of it?

Any other thoughts? Things that I could do to enhance the advertisier experience?

By the way: If you are not listed, would you like to be?

That’s it. Thanks for your help.

Why Are Aren’t Advertising Agencies Using Pinterest?

Peter · April 25, 2014 · Leave a Comment

Pinterest just added Guided Search. It makes it easier to find pins and boards on the desktop and in the mobile world.

Pinterest is huge and they wanted to make it easier to find what their users are looking for (I’ll come back to why this matters to agencies in a second.) According to Mashable:

Part of what made the expanded search necessary is the total number of pins on the platform. Silbermann (Ben, the CEO) says that Pinterest users have created 750 million boards, and pinned more than 30 billion items. Those numbers have grown 50% in the last six months alone, he says.

OK, zillions of people search Pinterest. Some are your future clients. If so, why are two of the leading results for the term “advertising agencies” advertising agency new business consultants – Michael Gass and me? Shouldn’t it be advertising agencies or the huge networks like WPP or Publicis leading the way? What if a client thinks of using Pinterest to do an agency search? Hint: some are.

Take a look below. And, while you are at it, here is a link to my set of Pinterest posts.

Pinterest Works

I Love It: Pinterest Marketing & SEO

Peter · September 10, 2013 · Leave a Comment

I love SEO, Google and Pinterest. As in using Pinterest for marketing.

I am writing a long piece on advertising agency positioning. It will publish in a couple of weeks in time for Advertising Week New York. I’ll be there and will be writing about my thoughts on the speakers and event vibes for the Advertising Week blog.

While doing my agency positioning research, I decided to do some exploration on the idea of advertising agency of the future. My search yielded the search results charted below. As you can see, my Pinterest page popped high up. As I said above, “I love SEO, Google and Pinterest.” Yes SEO-mavens, I checked using other browsers and emptied my cache.

Pinterest = Content = Inbound Marketing = New Business

Peter · July 10, 2013 · Leave a Comment

Pinterest content works. Google indexes it, people like its simplicity and it is very easy to update. And… it drives incoming traffic. Think new business.

Peter Levitan peterlevitan on PinterestI’ve got 1,117 pins and 38 boards covering hundreds of ad agencies in my Pinterest agency directory. It is found every day and agencies write me to ask to be included or to update their page. I’ve even had a couple of clients thank me for the directory, “Thanks, what an easy way to see all the agencies in my town.”

Pinterest delivers targeted incoming new business leads via DIY inbound marketing. It took me and an Odesk helper from the Philippines (I love outsourcing) about three weeks to get it up. Cost? My time and about $300.

My point? Just imagine what your agency could do if it concentrated on “owning” a client  or business related subject on Pinterest. You could…

Create a directory of every major CPG company.

Aggregate the “best of” social media promotions with sections on Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest, etc.

Do a “This Week In Marketing Technology.”

List and review the websites of your favorite client’s competitors.

Point to the history of Cannes Lions winners.

Show the history of mobile phones to start to brand your agency as “mobile.”

And on.

Need more business development stimulation? It is here.

HubSpot, Inbound Marketing & Pinterest

Peter · June 7, 2013 · Leave a Comment

Only a small fraction of advertising agencies have taped into the power of Pinterest marketing to increase the reach of their business development efforts. More should. To help the advertising world (magnanimous, yes?) I’ve written about the power of Pinterest as an advertising agency business development tool in the past.

HubSpot & Inbound Marketing & Pinterest

HubSpot hubspot on PinterestI was on the HubSpot site today looking for a blog post (Three Ways Foundering Agencies Find Growth) from Agency Post’s Jami Oetting that quoted me – I’ve been getting traffic off the mention –  and I stumbled on HubSpot’s Pinterest site. Its a big deep one. The HubSpot folks, who are clearly dedicated to the power of inbound marketing, do an excellent job of using Pinterest for the distribution of information and as a branding device. I suggest that you take a look at how they are using the site to support their business development program.

The fast, easy to use, visual nature of the site really helps to search for and find some of the tons of social media content that the HubSpot team produces. I think that Pinterest makes it much easier to find what you are looking for and also helps to stumble on the unexpected. Here are some of my favorites:

WonderfulWebinars (especially those of Dan Zarrella and Rand Fishkin)

Marketing Data

Promotion for their INBOUND Conference (including a promotional video that includes Cyndi Lauper)

And…. a review of some smart marketing campaigns (some great charts that you could steal)

The use of Pinterest for business is booming. There are some good ideas here. If your at all flummoxed about Pinterest, give me a shout. Note: This is my Pinterest-based advertising agency directory — are you in it?
