Do You Hug On LinkedIn?

Peter · July 31, 2014 · 1 Comment

Hi Hug Me Comment Image MyCommentSpaceI love LinkedIn. It is a key element in my inbound marketing program. In the past 30 days alone, LinkedIn delivered over 250 visitors to my website and my posts on LinkedIn have been viewed by lots of nice folks. I’ve written about how to use LinkedIn as an inbound marketing tool a few times on this blog. Here is a list of past posts.

The LinkedIn Group Hug

I also post and comment occasionally in my LinkedIn groups. Some groups are better than others and a quick look to see if they are spam heavy helps me figure out which ones are run professionally. That said, one thing I haven’t done is to contact and send out hugs to fellow group members. I may do so when my book comes out but I won’t make direct contact unless there is a very good strategic reason to do so.

My friend Steve Klinetobe, the master of The Cartoon Agency, has a very funny take on how shared group membership alone might not be a powerful reason to get other members to hug you back.

When is The Best Time To Post, Pin and Tweet?

Peter · June 3, 2014 · Leave a Comment

I use this blog, LinkedIn, Twitter, Facebook (a recent addition), Pinterest (via my agency directory) and Google+ to promote my business. I stare at my stats to analyze what posts, subject categories, headlines and to determine when is the best time to post, pin and tweet.

Here is a sweet chart from SurePayroll on the best times to post. As you might imagine, there is devil in the details and your milage will vary based on your target market’s interests and behavior and how interesting your posts are.

Best Read Advertising Blog Posts

Peter · May 27, 2014 · 2 Comments

cher.h9In the interest of sharing, here is a list of my best read / performing blog posts during the past few months. All of these posts are found via a search engine optimized blog; my email newsletter list (sign up for it below); Twitter; LinkedIn; Facebook; my Pinterest agency directory website; guest posts; Reddit and a test I did using Outbrain (nice traffic but not well targeted.)

The Worst Advertising Agency Presentation post went somewhat viral across social media with a special thanks to Facebook. I suspect that the story resonated with the Saatchi & Saatchi and M&C Saatchi universes because it discusses a looser pitch for Adidas I did with Maurice and Charles Saatchi. It is an entertaining, if sad story.

How To Name Your Agency is clearly a hot topic for new and existing agencies. The majority of the other posts address my main topic: agency new business. Thank you SEO Gods.

Next: I am interested in seeing how the brand new 34 Advertising Agency Search Consultants post does in the coming weeks.

The links are hot. Go on and visit some of my best read posts.

How Advertising Agencies Publish On LinkedIn

Peter · April 28, 2014 · Leave a Comment

I’ve begun to test LinkedIn’s new content publishing platform. It allows all of us (the platform is currently rolling out) to publish long posts on LinkedIn — just like Mark Cuban. Importantly, your posts will be seen outside your own network. This is the big benefit. Here is LinkedIn’s announcement.

“Starting today, LinkedIn is opening up our publishing platform to our members, giving them a powerful new way to build their professional brand. When a member publishes a post on LinkedIn, their original content becomes part of their professional profile, is shared with their trusted network and has the ability to reach the largest group of professionals ever assembled. Now members have the ability to follow other members that are not in their network and build their own group of followers. Members can continue to share their expertise by posting photos, images, videos and their original presentations on SlideShare”

I posted two very short posts last week to see how the system works. The posts were simply repurposed content from this blog — easy! I can’t say that I am overwhelmed at the numbers but I like that I could track my stats immediately and that I amassed, well here are the stats as of yesterday (they are up another 12 as of this morning):

My goal is to continue to test the publishing platform and to see how longer posts about broader subjects perform. I am sure that the art of headline writing will make a big difference.

Take away: even small agencies can now broadcast their brilliance to the entire Linkedin network.
