How To Position An Advertising Agency

I will say this quickly because you know that I have been hammering the point of agency ‘sameness’ for a couple of years: ad agencies do not know how to create a distinctive brand positioning for their agency. You can read lots of my blog posts on agency positioning right here.

A Well Positioned ‘Advertising’ Agency

Portland’s The Good is a agency that has been honing its positioning for the past 18 months. They pay very close attention to what their clients and the market needs and have adjusted their skills, messaging and marketing to deliver a very clear brand statement. Being this clear, is scary for most agencies who would rather live in the somewhat amorphous land of ‘full-service’ and ‘digital.’ Here it what they say on their website. Pay close attention to how they express their positioning and their word choice. [Read more…] about Finally: How To Position An Advertising Agency

The Levitan Pitch Playbook – The Tools

FYI: This Advertising Agency Pitch Playbook (a pitching toolset) supports my book on advertising agency presentations and pitching…  The Levitan Pitch. Buy This Book. Win More Pitches. It is the definitive ‘How To’ book on advertising agency pitching & winning. Look up to the top of this page to get a free chapter or just go for it and buy it (for the price of a couple of lattes, you will win more new accounts).

Yogi.

“Baseball is ninety percent mental and the other half is physical.”

– Yogi Berra

I love this famous quote because Yankee Hall Of Famer Yogi Berra is so right. By the time you make it to the majors, i.e. the opportunity to pitch for a new client account that might change the direction and fortunes of your advertising agency, you’ve done some serious mental work, and now it’s time get the physical part right.

If you are smart and beautiful, you are probably holding a copy of my ‘mentally physical’ book and that’s how you got here.

OK. OK. Let’s get on with it. [Read more…] about The Advertising Agency Pitch Playbook

NJO had very active reader forums, no, we did not call that social media then, but it was. To support our social media program we also collected email addresses and used Mercury Mail, an early player in the email space, to deliver targeted emails to our large NY Metro audience.

Today, email is a part of everyone’s online life, it is the most used digital tool, and as marketers, it is, or should be, a key element of all of our business development marketing programs. But, it isn’t.
